In 2008 I had a brain haemorrhage which resulted in left-sided weakness and short-term memory issues. I am partially sighted in one eye and insulin dependent. I use a manual wheelchair to get around. I get along with anyone and love having a chat. I like asking questions about people. Before my accident I worked in a garage, so I have an interest in cars. HOURS OF WORK 9 hours per week, ideally over 3 x 3 hour shifts starting around 11.30am. RATES OF PAY £9.50 an hour 40p mileage allowance when I’m in the car with you. TASKS INVOLVED Social and community based activities only Shopping – supermarkets, charity shops, car boot sales Cinema Pushing my wheelchair Suggesting and researching new activities TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED Reliable, flexible and consistent is essential A person who respects and understands the need for confidentiality Experience in care isn’t essential, as long as you have a caring nature and are willing to learn Initiative to suggest new activities Able to push my wheelchair ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. I will be your legal employer. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
