JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am an elderly gentleman that requires companionship and help to maintain independence. I have limited eyesight and poor hearing. I do not leave my home without assistance. I have a range of interests including arts, opera, historic building and local Welsh history.

PURPOSE OF JOB

I mostly require companionship but other duties include payment of bills (meals on wheels), prompting to shower at least twice a week, bringing me shopping and keeping my home clean and tidy, although I do have a cleaner once every two weeks. I need to be reminded to eat a meal from the freezer on Saturday’s.

I enjoy playing scrabble, listening to classical music and listening to poetry, stories and reminiscing about my work in the local community. 

PLACE OF WORK

I need a companion to come to my home in Talygarn, Pontyclun three times a week.

HOURS OF WORK

I have a carer but need someone to cover for her holiday and sickness. I need a visit on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings preferably around 9.30 am but this may be flexible. 10 hours in total to be split evenly across the week.

RATE OF PAY

£10.80 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

  • I need my PA to ensure that I am wearing my fall monitor (wrist) and personal alarm (red button on necklace)
  • Shop for essentials like bread, milk, butter, marmalade
  • Prompt me to get into shower and assist if needed
  • Remind me to take my medicine and use my eye drops
  • Go through my post with me and pay bills
  • Ensure washing up is done
  • Change my bedsheets
  • Play scrabble and chat with me

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

You will need to be flexible, sociable and willing to do any jobs that emerge i.e. cleaning spills/ breakages and generally keeping an eye out for potential risks around home and minimising risk. I will get along well with someone chatty who will ask me about my interests and my life’s work.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you. Driving not a necessity but please note residence is not easily accessible by public transport.
