JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

I am a gentleman in my early fifties living at home with my parents and my dog in Pontypridd. I have multiple Sclerosis (MS) which means my dexterity and mobility are impaired and I need a wheelchair to get about. I’ve recently had to forfeit my driving license as a result of this. For this reason I need some help, support and guidance when I go out and about in the community.

I have interests in motorbikes, heavy metal music, carpentry and joinery and I also enjoy taking my dog for a walk when I am able to.

PLACE OF WORK

At home and out in the community.

HOURS OF WORK

There are 8 hours of work available per week.

Days and times can be mutually agreed although earlier in the day (mornings/ lunchtime) would suit me better than later in the afternoon.

RATE OF PAY

£10.80 per hour

Plus Mileage Allowance

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

  • Supporting me to get out and about
  • Collecting me and helping me get out of the house and back in
  • Helping me to transfer in and out of your car
  • Pushing my manual wheelchair
  • Making sure I am safe at all times when out and about
  • Providing me with support and companionship when out and about
  • Taking me out for a free meal

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

I am looking to employ a personal assistant to help and support me to go out locally to do social and leisure activities, something I’ve been unable to do since losing my mobility.

This will involve meeting me at my home and going out into the local town centre or to the park to take my dog for a walk.

I’d like to go to other places but I need to build my confidence first.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Driver with access to own vehicle
  • Experience of caring for someone with MS
  • Someone with a good knowledge of the local area
  • Someone punctual and reliable
  • Proactive organising
  • Someone respectful of people’s home
  • Someone physically fit enough to push me in a manual wheelchair
  • Someone with similar interests

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probationary period of 6 months will be necessary in the first instance. I will be your employer. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay.

This job is subject to a DBS check.
