VOG565 Personal assistant Please quote job reference VOG565 on application. Apply now A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF I am a gentleman living in Llantwit Major who has a live-in carer. I have Downs syndrome, I am 61 and I have moderate Alzheimer’s Dementia that was diagnosed in 2015. The Dementia affects my short-term memory and sometimes my mood. I have always liked people and been sociable and still like to go out in the afternoon for a drive or visit the beach at Llantwit Major and have an ice cream. I like to look at maps and enjoy Country File magazines. I lose concentration quite quickly and need guidance when doing these things. I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support me to go into the local community to go to places of interest such as the beach, and out for short walks, or go for a drive along the coast. However, when I don’t feel like going out I would like support at home whilst I have lunch or tea/coffee and keep me company. There is some personal care involved as I need help when going to the toilet and being prompted to wash my hands afterwards. PURPOSE OF THE JOB The role is to support and keep me safe whilst my live-in carer has a break during the day. HOURS OF WORK 14 hours per week in total the usual shifts are below however this can be discussed at interview Monday 2.00-5.00pm Tuesday 1.30-5.30pm Thursday 1.30-5.30pm Friday 1.30-4.30pm RATES OF PAY £10.00 per hour TASKS CAN INCLUDE Supporting to go into the community such as the beach, short walks Keep my safe and occupied Keep me company whilst having lunch Help with personal hygiene if necessary TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED Someone with a mature attitude, who is kind, friendly, patient and calm Non-smoker Someone who is flexible and reliable Driver license needed and have my own vehicle Someone who can use their own initiative and has common sense Experience of working with people with special needs and Dementia an advantage ABOUT THE JOB This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid every month on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. This post is subject to an enhanced police check (DBS) and training may be required if identified by the employer.
