Part-time Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

Gentlemen in my 70’s living with my wife and family in Penarth. I have had a varied and broad career. I was a swimmer and competed internationally for Wales and Great Britain. I also was an English teacher and Lecturer in a variety of settings. I have mixed moderate Dementia and I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. I am looking for a Personal Assistant for social interaction, companionship and to help me remain active in the community. I have a keen interest in the arts and literature and like to visit art galleries, museums, and libraries.

PURPOSE OF JOB

  • Main reason for the position – companionship, get out in the community when well, respite for wife
  • Ideally looking for 2 PA’s to split the hours

HOURS OF WORK

12 hours a week (looking for 2 PA’s to do 6 hours each), days and times flexible

RATES OF PAY

£10.70 per hour (mileage to be paid at 0.40p mile)

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Companionship in the home
  • Social outings, community activities
  • Stroll along the seafront
  • Going for a coffee
  • Any other reasonable task

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Friendly/Chatty
  • Confident/Proactive
  • Own vehicle with business class insurance
  • Experience of caring for someone with Dementia in a personal or professional capacity (preferred)

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid Monthly, and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority). The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK.
