Details on QCF qualifications

Dewis CIL is now continuing with its ambitious programme of providing vocational learning for personal assistants. In partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf it is now into a new cohort of providing QCF level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Personal Assistants).

Numerous personal assistants have now undergone and successfully completed this programme, all working for service users across the various local authorities that Dewis provide support services in. The Assessors, (1 of which kindly supplied by RCT) are taking the learners through their units via one-to-one meetings on a fortnightly basis, with individual learners undertaking their own study and research. Most commonly these are held at Dewis as are the underpinning knowledge days run by Dewis staff as training courses (see the training calendar for dates).

The process might be summarised as:
• One-to-one meetings of the Assessor and the learner (using Dewis offices)
• Three way meetings with the Assessor, the learner and employer with visits to the work setting
• Planned training days where underpinning knowledge is provided at Dewis

Dewis CIL would like to be in a position to open this course to all PAs and do encourage enquiries regarding this unique qualification. This is a specific vocational qualification for personal assistants. The learners themselves are to be congratulated on putting themselves forward for this long road of study, which can take up to a year or more to complete. Of course, it also involves their employers, the direct payments users. Evidence and demonstration is a vital part of this qualification. It does mean we all have to work together. The learners are provided with an excellent text on the qualification, but they will also be supplied with booklets from Dewis on each of their training courses.

Dewis is also prepared to develop and hold further sessions if required to support learners with optional units which they choose as they progress with the programme.

Dewis CIL has been running the highly rated QCF level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care for some years. This programme leads to the City and Guilds Diploma. It can be completed in roughly 10-12 months depending upon each individual. We will once again be inviting applicants to places on this level 3 programme for the next year.
Further Development
We are considering places on the Social Care Induction Framework which is a level 2 programme and has a target time for completion of 12 weeks, or on a short introduction course which is just 10 hours in total, and involves attending 5 short sessions at level 1. Dewis CIL also offers PAs the chance to access one off training sessions which are rewarded with attendance certificates. These are useful for a record of prior learning.
