I hold a QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care and a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Arts from the University of South Wales. Throughout my career I have supported individuals both in their own homes and in the community. My experience includes supporting people to attend activities, appointments, social events, concerts, holidays, swimming sessions and community projects. I have also supported individuals with cooking, shopping, budgeting, developing independent living skills and achieving personal goals. I enjoy building positive relationships and helping people access activities that are important to them. I am patient, reliable, calm under pressure and have a good sense of humour. I particularly enjoy community-based support and encouraging people to participate in activities they enjoy while promoting independence, choice and safety. I currently work as a Support Worker with Dimensions and previously worked for Innovate Trust and React, supporting individuals with a wide range of needs. I believe my experience, qualifications and person-centred approach would enable me to provide safe, enjoyable and meaningful support in this role.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe the most important qualities when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person are reliability, patience, respect, trustworthiness and a positive attitude. A good personal assistant should take the time to get to know the individual, understand their preferences and support them in making their own choices. It is important to promote independence while providing the right level of support to ensure the person feels safe, valued and included. Good communication skills are essential, as well as being calm, flexible and able to adapt to different situations. A personal assistant should be dependable and consistent, as building trust is a key part of developing a positive working relationship. I also believe it is important to have a good sense of humour and enjoy spending time with people. Supporting someone to access activities they enjoy, build confidence and participate in their community should be rewarding for both the individual and the personal assistant. Above all, a personal assistant should treat the person with dignity, respect and kindness, recognising them as an individual with their own goals, interests and choices.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can contribute towards the needs and independence of a disabled person by providing support that is person-centred, respectful and focused on their individual goals. I believe it is important to support people to do as much as possible for themselves, rather than doing things for them unnecessarily. I would take the time to get to know the person, understand what is important to them and support them to access the activities, places and opportunities they enjoy. Whether this involves attending community activities, developing new skills, building confidence or maintaining existing routines, I would encourage independence while ensuring the person feels safe and supported. My role would be to provide encouragement, practical assistance and reassurance when needed, helping the person make their own choices and decisions. I understand that independence looks different for everyone, and my approach would be tailored to the individual’s abilities, preferences and support needs. With my experience in social care, I have supported people to access their communities, build social connections, develop daily living skills and participate in activities that improve their wellbeing and quality of life. I believe that promoting choice, dignity, confidence and inclusion helps people live more fulfilling and independent lives.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): PA work appeals to me because it allows me to build a meaningful one-to-one relationship with the person I am supporting and make a positive difference in their everyday life. One of the aspects of support work I enjoy most is helping people access their communities, pursue their interests and take part in activities that are important to them. I enjoy supporting people to build confidence, have new experiences and enjoy the things that make them happy. I also like the person-centred nature of PA work. Supporting one individual allows me to get to know them well, understand their personality, interests and goals, and provide support that is tailored to their needs. I find this rewarding because it enables me to see the positive impact that consistent support can have on someone’s wellbeing, independence and quality of life. With my experience in social care, I have supported people to attend activities, appointments, community events, holidays and social opportunities. I enjoy being active, spending time in the community and helping people make the most of the opportunities available to them. I believe PA work offers the chance to combine these interests while providing high-quality support that is respectful, reliable and person-centred.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. My main interests include football, running, cycling, walking and exploring nature. I enjoy being part of community activities and spending time with friends and family. I am also a creative person and enjoy drawing, painting and writing. I have a particular interest in the therapeutic benefits of art and creativity, which led me to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Arts at the University of South Wales. I enjoy attending local events, visiting museums and the cinema, and exploring new places. I am a positive, patient and easy-going person with a good sense of humour, and I enjoy meeting new people and building positive relationships.
