Dewis Centre for Independent Living is a charitable organisation committed to supporting disabled people, allowing them to live independently, and providing them with ‘choice’.

The original organisation was created in 1996 as a non profit-making Company Limited by Guarantee. It was designed to act as a 3rd party organisation run by disabled people who used its services. The specific aims were to allow a small number of disabled people to have choice in who they wished to have as their carers or personal assistants.

Our dedicated services strive to support them with the care and well-being they deserve, and provide Direct Payments to the following Local Authorities across Wales:

  • Rhondda Cynon Taf
  • Vale of Glamorgan
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Cardiff

Dewis also provides Advocacy services in the following local authorities:

  • Rhondda Cynon Taf
  • Newport
  • Conwy & Denbighshire
  • Pembrokeshire
  • Powys
  • Gwent (Mental Health in Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent)

We work in partnership with the Social Services Departments of each of these authorities. The Gwent Advocacy service is funded by the Aneurin Bevan Health Board.
