Aims and Objectives

Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace – which offers more in-depth

knowledge, allowing the participant to conduct a full assessment and administer first aid for a wider

range of injuries as well as major illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, stroke etc.

This is recommended for First Aid Responders working in settings with more potential for a diverse range and severity of injuries due to the nature of activities on site. This is a three day course with examination assessed practical and by written exam.

OBJECTIVES: Learners will be able to:

·         Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid.

·         To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid.

To provide learners with the basic skills in order to offer emergency assistance for those identified as requiring it.

 

OBJECTIVES: Learners will be able to:

·         Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid.

·         To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid.

·         Demonstrate the following:

Ø  adult CPR using a manikin.

Ø  placing a casualty into the recovery position

Ø  monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position.

·         Identify and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is:

Ø  Choking

Ø  Displaying signs of a seizure

Ø  Presenting with an external bleed

Ø  suffering from shock

Ø  Presenting with different types of wounds, minor burns and scolds
