Training Plan – ‘Cardiff Social Care Induction Programme”

The Cardiff Social Care Induction Programme will run on a monthly basis and will be delivered as a ‘pick and mix’ menu of options. You can choose to access the learning opportunity that has either been identified as a learning need or is most applicable to your role and responsibilities. Not all learning opportunities needs to be completed if not needed.

 

Method of delivery

Face to face sessions offered as part of the induction are -

  • First Aid
  • Manual Handling All Wales Passport (2 days)
  • Safeguarding Adults Level 2
  • Collaborative Communication (Introduction)

 

These will run Tuesday – Friday in City Hall, Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3ND and will be delivered by the Social Care Training and Development Team

 

Please note –

Safeguarding Adults is running at Level 2 (Group B Practitioner). Should your role require you to under take Level 3 (Group C Practitioner) learning, please contact Catrin Davies ([email protected]) or for external staff  please contact Julie Lever ([email protected] )

Collaborative Communication is running at an introductory level, and you may be required to complete further learning, depending on your role.

To provide learners with the basic skills in order to offer emergency assistance for those identified as requiring it.

 

Learners will be able to:

·         Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid

·         To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid

·         Demonstrate the following:

·         adult CPR using a manikin

·         placing a casualty into the recovery position

·         monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position

·         Identify and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is:

·         Choking

·         Displaying signs of a seizure

·         Presenting with an external bleed

·         suffering from shock

·         Presenting with different types of wounds, minor burns and scolds

Aim The training aims to provide the learner with knowledge, understanding and skills in manual handling  to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries caused by poor practice in the workplace.

 

 

Learning Outcomes:  Modules A & B

  • 1.Define the term “manual handling”

·         2. Describe the causes and effects of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)

  • 3. Outline considerations for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorders

·         4. Outline the legislation relevant to the safe moving and positioning of people

·         5. Describe the importance of ergonomics and risk assessment factors to be considered, including dynamic risk assessment in reducing the risk of injury to self or others

·         6. Describe the principles of safer handling of loads, including good posture

·         7. Identify the risks involved in team handling, handling large awkward loads and the importance of good communication.

·         8.Demonstrate an understanding of person-centred approaches

·         9.Outline the management arrangements for safer handling within the organisation e.g. policy, risk assessment & training

·         10.Demonstrate an understanding of formal and dynamic risk assessment.

·         11.Demonstrate the following techniques:

Pushing and pulling

Lifting and lowering a load from/to the floor or low level

Supporting & carrying a load

·         12. Demonstrate basic safety checks of equipment as appropriate

This Level 2 Safeguarding Adults session is aimed at Group B practitioners in line with the Wales Safeguarding Procedures, as part of the Cardiff Social Care Induction Programme.  Group B practitioners are defined as those who spend time with people in a group setting or on a one-to-one basis. They will have a particular responsibility in relation to the people they work with and will need a higher level of knowledge than those in Group A because of their direct involvement with people. The people they work with may or may not have safeguarding concerns.

 

The standards aim to give you an understanding about safeguarding and what you must do in cases of actual or potential harm, abuse or neglect.

This is session is an introduction to Collaborative Communications, a strengths-based approach to achieving outcomes. It is aimed at all staff who join the local authority. It is also suitable for those in private sector settings, volunteers, unpaid carers and personal assistants.

 

 

Aims and Objectives

 

  • To learn “what is Collaborative communications?”- strengths based approach to meeting outcomes in Cardiff.
  • To understand meaningful outcomes for the citizens of Cardiff you work with in line with the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014.
  • OARS communication approach (Open, Affirm, Reflect and Summarise).
  • Deepen reflective listening skills, reflective statements.
