Carer’s Bonus - Social Care Workforce Special Payment Scheme The Welsh Government have introduced a scheme which recognises and rewards those who have worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reward is a one-off payment of £500 which is subject to tax and National Insurance. To receive this payment, care staff must have been employed in an eligible role during the period 15 March to 31 May 2020. This may include those who have since left eligible roles. Staff can only claim one payment regardless of the number of employers they worked for during this time period. Details of the scheme and eligibility criteria are available at https://gov.wales/social-care-workforce-special-payment-scheme#section-44398 From 17th August, Cardiff Council is writing to all employers of eligible care staff, who will be responsible for identifying staff, distributing claim forms for completion by employees and submitting claims to Cardiff Council. If you think you are eligible for payment, please speak to your employer. Cardiff Council would like to have received all claims by 11th September 2020 to enable payment by the end of October.
