Job Description

 

A Little About Myself-

I’m Rhiannon, I am 42 years old I currently live in Llandaff North. I am currently on the housing waiting list and hoping to move into disabled accommodation soon.

I attend Ty Canna Day Services (Based in Canton Cardiff next door to Chapter) where I participate in activities including Jewellery Making, Art, Drama and Creative Writing. (This will also be the address where I will be picked up and dropped off).

I used to teach but due to my health was unable to continue in this career.

Purpose Of Job

I have both physical and mental health, diagnosis and currently looking for support from a Personal Assistant for 3 hours per week. These hours are to support me to go shopping locally or find local community services that will meet my needs.

Hours Of Work

I have been allocated 3 hours per week, I would prefer to have this on a Tuesday morning 10.00-1.00, but will need someone flexible as some weeks I may need longer or shorter. I would like to participate on trips with Ty Canna so may need support and hours to be used for this. (Example – Day trip 9.30-3.30 so this would take up 2 weeks’ worth of hours).

Rate Of Pay

£15.50 per hour.

Tasks Involved

Support in the community, I may become dizzy and nauseated and need to find a safe place. I will need someone who is able to manage both my physical and mental health issues. Due to my physical health I can become very tired and may need personal care when out in the community therefore need a female PA.  I will not need support within the home at this time. Only community. I will also need someone with access to a vehicle, and be able to fold and unfold my walker and place it in the boot of the car. I will need assistance to get into and out of the car and ensure I am safe when walking on the pavement as I am high risk of falling.

 

Type of person Required

I will require someone with experience working with both physical and mental health. The main skills I feel are needed are patients and understanding, on times I may become overwhelmed, stressed and anxious. Having someone with me to calm me and reassure me is essential. I may need to use hours sporadically on times so flexibility is also essential.

 

About the Job

I am an easy going lady with experience of teaching, I’d love to be able to get out and about more but limited due to do my physical health. I need support to go to the local supermarket to buy a weekly shop, I would also like to find volunteer opportunities to be able to use my skills and have a purpose again. At present I am struggling with my mental health; and this process is quite overwhelming as it will mean meeting new people. The role is about making me feel safe when in the community, to have an understanding of my conditions and to help me reach a place where I feel included in society again.
