Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I’m a 62 year old man living in Talbot Green. In 2018 I had a stroke which has resulted in left sided weakness but I am still mobile and very independent. I do however use a walking stick in the home and a wheelchair when out

Before my stroke I led a very healthy, active and fit lifestyle and I am determined this won’t change. 

PLACE OF WORK

Your job will be in and around the local community as well as in my home. 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

You will support me to retain my independence and manage day-to-day tasks.  

HOURS OF WORK

8 hours per week, and additional hours on occasion to cover annual leave. 2 x 4 hour block shifts worked Wednesday and Friday. These shifts may vary so there is an expectation of flexibility in this this role. 

RATE OF PAY

£11.44 per hour

40p mileage allowance

TASKS INVOLVED

·        Weekly shopping

·        Out for a meal to a local restaurant or to the cinema

·        Going to the gym a few times a week

·        There is a small element of personal care involved which includes applying creams, but otherwise I am capable of managing the main aspects of my personal care

·        Assisting me to maintain an active social life

·        Emotional support to boost my mood and manage situations which can sometimes be overwhelming

·        Supporting/driving me to visit my son in Barry or my father in Porthcawl 

 

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

·        An enthusiastic and friendly person is important

·        Good communication skills are important

·        You must be presentable and respectable

·        Flexible with the times you work

·        Very important that you are dependable and reliable

·        Someone who can confidently and easily build rapport me

·        A driver who has access to a car

·        Sense of humour is a must

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. I will be your legal employer. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
