PERSONAL ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

SOMETHING ABOUT ME

I am an elderly lady, a Lancashire Lass, who is living in Penarth with my daughter and son-in-law. My daughter works full time and I need help during the day as I have Alzheimer’s. I’m sociable and enjoy talking to people but my Alzheimer’s means that it can be tricky to get my wants and needs across. I can get anxious and upset, particularly when changing tasks and at the end of a day. You need to be patient with me and perhaps distract me with a game or looking at pictures or watching a movie. I need help to keep occupied, as find not knowing things can be quite frustrating at times. I have arthritis and so my mobility isn’t great and I need to use a wheelchair if I go out for longer distances. I can still get up and down steps in my house, though kerbs can be more difficult as the paths are uneven and I find it difficult to perceptually, judge the kerb. I need your arm to steady me when I’m out and about.  I do enjoy being back out in my local community and many people know me in Penarth so its nice to connect with some smiley faces.

I love music and sing with the Forget-Me-Not choir using their pre-recorded sessions now as the evening face to face sessions are a little late for me to be out. I have piano lessons on a Saturday and would be interested in being involved with activities that include music including watching musicals; my favourite one being Calamity Jane. I previously made all my clothes, knitting and sewing. I like to colour and do puzzles. I like having a cuppa tea and cakes at the local café or Morrisons. I was a regular church go-er before COVID and would love to start attending again. My aim each day is to have fun and laugh and live the best life I can.

If you are interested in finding out more please contact DEWIS and they will link you with my daughter.
