Duties included delivering lessons to teenage classes of around 30 pupils, smaller classes and supporting pupils with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. Prior to this I was employed by Hafod Care as part of the Mental Health team, working in the community to support each individuals needs. These needs varied from severe OCD, dementia, lack of confidence and loneliness. I have personal experience in my own family of onset dementia and autism, in the past supporting both my father and my uncle with their conditions. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): To be a good personal assistant you should have a desire to help others, show respect, have patience, empathy and sensitivity. Be a good communicator and listener and have a positive attitude.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): With a positive attitude and encouragement establish trust, learn their needs and adapt to their situations. Engage them in meaningful conversation and be a good listener.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): The appeal for me is to help make someones life better , however small a part I play.
