Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I am currently employed in a school environment working as a breakfast club assistant and lunchtime supervisor. Prior to this, I have over 8 years experience of working in a personal assistant role via Dewis, providing support and help to employers both within the home carrying out cleaning and food preparation and socially participating in daily activities, such as shopping, going for coffee, walks, attending appointments and collecting medication. In my previous personal assistant roles, I have supported people to attend music concerts, theatre shows, cinema, activities such as bowling, exercise classes and shopping. I actively researched activities and places of interest within the local area to have new experiences.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I have good experience of supporting individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities. I have good awareness of equality and diversity and I firmly believe that everyone should be treated fairly and supported appropriately to meet their individual needs. I understand Confidentiality and GDPR and adhere to safe practices within my current role in the school environment and in previous roles as a personal assistant. I am reliable, friendly and approachable with a good sense of humour. I have a calm manner and the ability to empathise with others. I am a good listener, compassionate and conscientious and will go over and above to support people to the best of my ability. I can also adapt my communication method to meet the needs of others and have experience of working with different needs in my current role.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can contribute towards the needs and independence of others by supporting them to lead a more active lifestyle to help develop and maintain their quality of life. I can adapt my approach to meet the needs of the individual.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I enjoy meeting new people and helping them to keep their independence. The personal assistant role has given me job satisfaction in supporting and helping others. The flexibility in the hours is also appealing as it can fit around my existing role, although I am flexible with this.
What are your hobbies/interests?: I enjoy listening to music and going to musicals. I also enjoy watching my son playing football.
