JOB DESCRIPTION

PERSONAL ASSISTANT

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 74 year old disabled gentleman living in Gilfach Goch.

I have a good sense of humour and enjoy tennis and curling. My main interest is walking on local walking trails where I live. I used to be part of a group but they’ve now disbanded and I am looking for a PA to support me with walks, as well as other activities when the weather isn’t suitable for walking.

Although I can walk I have mobility problems from time to time – this makes me feel unsafe. We won’t be walking very far – only about 3 miles at a time.

I have some difficulty with speech which can make it difficult for people to understand me, however with enough patience I can be understood.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

You will provide domestic and social support, such as going out walking as well as exploring new activities with me. Your job will be community and home based.

HOURS OF WORK

There are 4 hours per week available, to be worked flexibly, by prior arrangement. You will not be required to work evenings.

RATE OF PAY

£12.00 per hour

40p per mile if I am in the car with you.

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

·        Ensuring my safety and well-being while we are out is essential to this role

·        Supporting me to access activities, whether it’s walking or going to concerts

·        Most walking trails are near my home so you won’t always have to use your car

·        Possibly taking me to leisure centres

·        Suggesting and encouraging new activities, maybe researching local groups for me to join

·        Providing one hour per week of general domestic assistance in my home – laundry, changing bedding, vacuuming etc

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

·               Being proactive is essential

·               You must have a good degree of common sense and have an understanding of safety

·               A person who is dependable and arrives on time

·               You must have a good sense of humour and easy conversation skills

·               Willing to try new things with me and sharing an interest

·               Someone who is confident, mature and has patience

·               Someone who can drive, with access to own car

·               Experience in the field of caring is important, although you will be given a proper induction of what is required and how to safely carry out your role as my PA

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay.

A DBS check is compulsory at no expense to you.

My brother will be your legal employer.
