(required): YesPlease read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have had experience working with individuals that struggle with their mental health. People with Dementia and also People on the Autistic Spectrum. All in very different age brackets. I feel that supporting all these different individuals has allowed me to grow as a person and adapt to my surroundings. I have supported these individuals in their own homes and really appreciate the fact that I get to meet people in their own environments. I always understand that its hard for anyone to allow someone into their family unit without reservation. I know that relationships take time and effort but with some nurturing can flourish. I know I am a very trustworthy and compassionate person. I am also half way through my Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification. I think keeping my training relevant and up to date is so important for my role as a PA. It will help me work more effectively and efficiently. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I think there are too many to list but the main ones for me are, being Trustworthy, Compassionate, Empathetic, Reliable, Approachable, Good Listener, Co-productive and working in a person centered way because at the end of the day, the individual should be at the fore front of their care. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I think I can contribute in a positive way by actively listening to what the individual wants and needs whilst also being co-productive by working closely with the family. Its about working as a team. I think I know when to encourage an individual to do some things for themselves, either independently or with as much or as little support from me as they need or want. Its about reassuring them and letting them know that they always have choices and they dont have to do anything that they are uncomfortable with. I also think that its good to let the individual know that I am always there to support and also encourage but they will always have voice and control over how their support/care is delivered. My daughter is on the Autistic Spectrum, has ADHD, Spina Bifida Occulta and Sensory Processing Disorder. She attends Uni to study Psychology with Developmental Disorders because she would like to be able to work with Children with additional needs having gone through these struggles herself. This has given me a lot of respect and understanding for individuals trying to navigate life without having the right support. Its about trying to turn negatives into positives, with a little help along the way. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I really enjoy PA work because it allows me to have a nice work/life balance. I really appreciate that because I have a daughter who is 24 and commuting back and forth to a local Uni and a very needy dog that we rescued from a shelter.
