Yours faithfully Dewis Centre for Independent Living Ref: CDP2389 JOB DESCRIPTION Personal Assistant A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF I am a very sociable 79-year-old man with Parkinson’s, based in Heath, Cardiff and I’m looking for a personal assistant to support me to live as independently as possible. My daughter, Esther lives locally and helps me on some days, she will also help coordinate the support that I have from the successful candidate. PURPOSE OF JOB To support in my own home and out in the community. HOURS OF WORK Up to 6 hours p/w. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday- 6-7pm. Saturday 9-10am Occasionally extra hours will be available to cover as relief RATE OF PAY £15.70 an hour TASKS INVOLVED I need assistance with most activities, although no moving and handling and minimal personal care is required (I may need help getting socks/shoes/coat on). Key activities include food preparation, cooking, tidying up/cleaning, ironing, making sure I take my medication (NB medication will be ready in a pill box for each day, sorted by Esther), putting my hearing aids in, and driving me to / from my weekly table tennis session on a Thursday. TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED Someone who is reliable, kind, sensitive and caring. Punctual Car driver with access to own car is essential ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probation period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid 4 weekly. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you. Support cannot be carried out in the personal assistant’s own home.
