Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

 

I am a 9 year old girl and I live in the Treorchy area of Rhondda Cynon Taff with my mum, brothers and our dog.

 

I have Cerebral Palsy, epilepsy and have a profound hearing loss. I also have a developmental delay.

 

I enjoy going swimming, walks in the park and visiting soft play centres with sensory lights.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

My mum is looking to employ Personal Assistants to provide me with one to one and two to one support to assist with my social development and allow Mum to have a break from caring for me.

She is looking to employ someone to help and support me at home and provide them with some respite and also to go out into the community and undertake social and leisure activities, helping to maintain my independence.

 

HOURS OF WORK

 

There are 18 hours per week available. The personal Assistants would need to be flexible but the hours will be from 7.30am -9am in the morning before school and also on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3.30- 8pm to help bathe me. There will also be 6 hours available for a sitting service once per month from 6pm until midnight.

 

 

RATE OF PAY

£ 8.00 per hour

  

 

 

ABOUT THE JOB

 

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probationary period of 6 months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay.

 

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

 

Personal Care:

  • Changing nappy
  • Support with Dressing
  • Support with washing
  • Support with bathing and washing hair

 

Bedtimes:

  • Following my bedtime routine to help me sleep

 

Social Hours:

  • Going to different places that I enjoy, i.e. Park, Swimming.
  • Stimulating play at home or at play centres.
  • Making sure I am safe whilst at home and when out and about
  • Driving me to various places in our family car.

 

Other:

 

  • Sitting service

 

 

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone who is flexible (very important)
  • Someone who has experience working with children.

 

 

Desirable

  • Someone with moving and handling training.
  • Someone with experience of Peg feeding.
  • Someone with Knowledge of Cerebral Palsy
  • Someone with knowledge of epilepsy

 

 

 

TRAINING

 

The post is subject to a satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer.

 

You will also be required to attend a Child Abuse Awareness course and any other relevant courses that are appropriate to this position e.g moving and handling, epilepsy. You will also receive instruction from my mum and dad.

 

Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a calendar monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.

 

 

Attending a Safeguarding Children training course is also compulsory for this post.
