JOB DESCRIPTION

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 58 year old man living in the Flemingston area (between Barry and Llantwit major). I have a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease and this year have been forced to stop working. I worked in the airport and therefore have an interest in aviation. I have also worked on and been around farms all my life so naturally love being outdoors.

I am now a wheelchair user and have an all-terrain wheelchair for when going out to the seaside or for when I go out with my dog on harder to traverse terrain. 

I can still drive currently using my adapted vehicle and would like to keep driving as long as possible to remain as independent as I can. I am looking to get a new adapted vehicle to suit me more so currently would need help to transfer to my vehicle. 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide me with personal care about the house and to help me access the community and ensure my safety when out socially. 

HOURS OF WORK

Hours are to be worked on negotiation with myself. More hours needed weekdays but some weekend hours as well. 

Mainly mornings Monday – Friday.

RATES OF PAY 

£11.70 per hour

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

  • Helping me to dress in the morning.
  • Assisting me to the toilet.
  • Assisting me with general hygiene and helping me shower.
  • Passing things to me.
  • Helping me to transfer.
  • Coming out with me and my dog to get fresh air.
  • Going out for a coffee.
  • Ensuring my safety when out in the community.
  • Helping me around the house and potentially some domestic tasks.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone genuine and caring.
  • Someone who is compassionate and understanding.
  • A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home.
  • A reliable and punctual person.
  • Someone who is alright working in a home with a dog.
  • Don’t necessarily need to be a driver.

ABOUT THE JOB

This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four-weekly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. This post is subject to an enhanced police check (DBS) and training may be required if identified by the employer.
