I have previous experience working with children with additional needs including Autism spectrum and Attention deficit disorder. I have also taught swimming lessons to children with additional needs. I have worked as a learning support assistant in specialised schools such as Ysgol Y Deri in Penarth and heronsbridge in Bridgend. In addition I have helped take care of a child who is non verbal and has autism for quite a few weeks before taking on swimming lessons.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): 

I believe you need to be empathetic and understanding of people with disabilities, look at them as a person not just the disability. Theres no child thats the same each child is individual. You need to treat each person as an individual. This is what I do when working with children with additional needs.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): 

I have empathy and understanding of people with additional needs. I would happily take them out to the local community or looking after them at home, helping them gain independence and helping them fulfil their goals whilst allowing their parents or guardians some rest bite knowing their child is being well taken care of. I enjoy seeing their face lit up with joy when they get the help and independence they deserve.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): 

I have always enjoyed helping people, taking care of family and friends, and working with the children I have worked with is so rewarding. I also enjoy helping the family knowing Im making a possitive difference to their lives.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): 

I enjoy running events such as half marathons, I enjoy going away with my husband in the camper van. I also enjoy swimming, as a former swimming instructor I love teaching the importance of water safety as well as improving my own swimming ability.

Whilst I dont have a driving license I have experience of ensuring childrens safety on public transport. In addition if there was a need to go somewhere in a private vehicle, my husband who works as a personal assistant with Dewis, and has an enhanced DBS disclosure has a camper van with business insurance. He is able to drive us to and from locations.
