More recently, I have been working as a personal assistant with Dewis (April 2024 – April 2025), supporting an elderly lady in her 80s. My responsibilities included coordinating her schedule, providing transport, offering companionship, and adapting to her evolving needs with empathy and care. I also developed a strong relationship with her family and was available for emergency support as I live locally. I genuinely enjoy the companionship element of this role as much as the practical responsibilities, and I believe my background and experience have equipped me well for this position. I am educated to degree level and also hold a postgraduate specialist teacher qualification. Most of my previous roles have been in schools and organisations, where I worked in management positions as a support coordinator, outreach worker, and project worker supporting both individuals and groups

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): 

I believe the most important qualities are empathy, patience, reliability, and respect for the individuals independence and choices. Its essential to be a good listener, adaptable to changing needs, and able to offer support in a way that empowers the person. Building trust and maintaining dignity in all aspects of care are also key to providing meaningful and effective support.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): 

I can contribute by offering practical support while always encouraging independence and choice. I aim to build a trusting relationship, adapt to individual needs, and provide assistance that enables the person to live as fully and confidently as possible, both at home and in the community.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): 

PA work appeals to me because I’m a compassionate and caring person who genuinely enjoys supporting others. As a mother of three grown-up children, I’ve spent much of my life caring for and helping others thrive. I find it deeply rewarding to build good relationships and make a positive difference in someone’s daily life and well-being.

I enjoy reading, walking and gardening.
