This includes supporting people with extremely complex need, as well as people with epilepsy, a range of learning difficulties, autism and mobility difficulties. I am a patient and caring individual, who is eager to learn and support others to the best of my ability. I currently work during the day, meaning night shifts would be preferable. I also have extensive training including First Aid, manual handling, epilepsy training, promoting independence and administering medication. I can adapt well to new situations and ensure that I always have a positive attitude, which is essential to my current role too.What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): When working with a disabled or more vulnerable person, the attributes I’d consider essential are compassion, patience, interpersonal skills and communication skills. I believe it’s also essential to do your best to promote the individual’s independence and autonomy, while providing the highest level of care possible.How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): When working with a disabled person, I ensure I always respect their boundaries and capabilities. I always promote independence and can recognise when an individual might need more/less support. I am a great communicator and have experience working with non-verbal individuals, as well as those that use PECS and low and high- tech AAC and always try to communicate as well as I can with each person. I am thoughtful and show initiative, skills which I believe are essential to contributing towards the needs and independence of disabled people.What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I already have experience supporting a range of people with varying needs. I thoroughly enjoy my work and love new challenges and feel as though I could make a difference to someone’s life with the skills I have attained through my work.What are your hobbies/interests?: I am a very active person who loves going for walks and going to the gym. I love reading and have recently graduated with a degree in English Literature. I also enjoy watching movies and going for drives.
