(required): I have over 11 years’ experience working in care and support roles, including my current role with Right at Home, a domiciliary care company. I provide one-to-one support to adults with a range of physical support needs, both in their own homes and in the community. My experience includes assisting with all aspects of personal care, such as washing, dressing, toileting, and continence care, while always maintaining dignity and respect. I am fully trained and experienced in hoist use and manual handling, and I am confident working in a physical role. I also support with meal preparation, light household duties, and companionship, and I regularly assist individuals to access the community for shopping, appointments, and social activities, encouraging independence and choice at all times. Working for Right at Home has strengthened my communication skills, reliability, and ability to build trusting, long-term relationships. I am flexible, dependable, and happy to work a variety of shifts overnights. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe the most important qualities are patience, empathy, reliability, and good communication. A personal assistant should be respectful, non-judgemental, and able to listen and respond to the individual’s needs and preferences. Having a positive attitude and a good sense of humour helps build a comfortable and enjoyable working relationship. Trustworthiness and consistency are also essential, as a PA works closely with someone in their own home and personal life. Being flexible, calm under pressure, and confident in supporting both personal care and social activities are key to providing high-quality support. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I contribute by supporting the individual to live their life on their own terms, encouraging choice, independence, and control wherever possible. My role is to assist, not take over, and to adapt support to suit the person’s preferences and routines. By providing reliable personal care, supporting community access, assisting with daily tasks, and offering companionship, I help create a safe and supportive environment that promotes confidence and wellbeing. I also communicate clearly, respect boundaries, and adapt my support as needs change, helping the individual maintain independence and quality of life. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): PA work appeals to me because it allows me to make a real and personal difference to someone’s everyday life. I enjoy working one-to-one, building meaningful relationships, and providing tailored support rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I find the role rewarding as it combines practical care with companionship and social support. I also value the variety of the role, from supporting daily routines to helping someone enjoy social activities, and I take pride in helping someone live as independently and confidently as possible. What are your hobbies/interests? (required): My interests include socialising, shopping, watching television, and spending time with friends and family. I enjoy going out for meals, trips to the cinema, and relaxing evenings at home. I also have an interest in hair, make-up, and personal presentation, and I understand the importance of feeling good about appearance and self-confidence.
