(required): I am turning 18 in two weeks and spent a week of work experience in the Ganolfan, which is the additional needs unit of Glantaf. I worked independently with children, many of which has complex additional needs, and learnt a lot about how to support them in everyday tasks. I really enjoyed this experience, seeing the children experience new things and grow as individuals. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe that punctuality is very important when working as a personal assistant, especially with an individual who has additional needs, as routine can be very important to them. Also, I believe that supporting the individual, whilst also encouraging them to be independent (as possible) is key to being a beneficial personal assistant. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I am a young person myself, and therefore I may be able to relate to the individual, and enjoy the same things e.g. going for a walk and getting a coffee after school! I am also local and therefore can be available for ad hoc work if the individual needs it. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I find it very rewarding to be able to support someone in their everyday life, making it easier for them to get things done whilst also encouraging them to be independent. I enjoyed my experience working with children who have additional needs very much and would like to pursue a career in this area. What are your hobbies/interests?: I love to read, watch television, gone on walks and eat nice food! Would you consider a casual position if you are unsuccessful with this job?
