Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I am an experienced healthcare support worker currently working in the community. I have undertaken manual handling courses and hold a manual handling passport. I understand healthcare very well and have worked on a range of wards including in the community and have a great range of skills, knowledge and confidence when working with patients. I am trained to notice concerns regarding pressure damage and skin concerns, I am able to carry out venepuncture. I am also trained in active listening, safeguarding adults and have shown continuous compassion in my time as a carer.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe to be a great PA to a disabled person, a candidate must be compassionate, kind, patient and understanding. Building a great relationship with clients is key as it is very important to get along, to ensure the disabled person feels comfortable and trusts you to ensure their comfort and safety. To be able to have a laugh and treat them as they would any able bodied person while also providing them a safe space to be themselves while encouraging independence.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I believe I can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person by building a great, trustworthy relationship with this person and getting a good understanding of their likes, dislikes, what is important to them, their routine and being able to encourage them to remain independent with this while also striving to make their life easier. I am an extremely friendly, kind person who takes person centred care very seriously. With my extensive experience in healthcare I have learnt valuable lessons in encouraging people to remain independent by encouraging them to do things for themselves while always being on hand to lend a helping hand where this is not possible.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): PA work appeals to me as I have seen this in action while working in the community and seen what a difference it can make to people’s lives and I would love to be a part of this. I take pride in showing kindness and compassion to all and believe PA work is a great way for this to come into fruition.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I am very interested in drawing, I often draw on my iPad spending lots of my free time doing this. I have previously made pet portraits and wedding signage through doing this. I am also very interested in films. I have a cinema pass for unlimited films at the cinema monthly as I am a very keen film watcher and myself and my husband do this together a lot. I am also a keen animal lover and like to take care of my two pet cats.
