(required): Yes Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have worked at an NGO providing career training and support for students with special needs, including both physical and mental disabilities, so I am experienced in communicating and working with individuals of diverse abilities. I have experience in providing mobility assistance (for individuals with visual/physical impairment), and interpretation service. I have received basic training in end-of-life care/palliative care, so I feel prepared to work with elderly people with health concerns, and I am eager to learn and adapt to the needs of different individuals. I am also qualified in Mental Health First-Aid, so I am confident in my ability to pay attention to the emotional needs of my clients and communicate effectively with them. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I think patience and creativity are the two most important qualities for one to have when working with a person with disabilities, since many unpredictable events can arise and a lot of effort can go into problem-solving. It is also undoubtedly emotionally taxing for any job that works with people with disabilities and illnesses, and therefore I believe that patience is essential to the job. On the other hand, because every individual has different conditions and circumstances, one cannot rely on solutions learned from books, and must remain creative and flexible to adapt to the situation. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have experience with supporting the mobility of individuals with visual or physical impairment, and I am familiar with doing basic housework and cooking. Aside from providing mobility and personal care support, I also consider myself to be an agreeable companion to converse with. I am familiar with a wide range of topics, including science, pop culture, history, and more, and therefore would make a great company to talk to. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I enjoy caring for other people and establishing personal connections with others, so I am drawn towards jobs that allow me to work with others closely and meaningfully. My own experiences with severe childhood abuse have fueled my passion to protect and empower others, and I want to be a source of safety and security for people who are hurting and struggling. Currently, I am working towards becoming an Occupational Therapist, and I believe that working as a PA will provide me with great experiences and insights into how to support people with diverse abilities and conditions. What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I enjoy reading, painting, and anything creative. I have recently finished a mural at a family friends restaurant, and I hope that I will be able to make more murals in the near future. My favourite short story currently is Ursula le Guins The ones who walk away from Omelas. It is a sci-fi story with a strong philosophical undertone, and it is very impactful. I love going to the cinema, and enjoy all genres of movies, including both mainstream and independent ones. I particularly enjoy anything related to detective and mysteries, and I also love puzzle games. Would you consider a casual position if you are unsuccessful with this job?
