My work history has also involved accompanying people to activities, managing schedules and assisting with day-to-day tasks such as maintaining safe spaces, organising belongings and helping with practical duties. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe the most important qualities are patience, respect and reliability. A Personal Assistant should support a disabled person in a way that maintains their independence, dignity and choice at all times. It is essential to be calm, understanding and able to listen carefully to what the person wants and needs. Good communication and a friendly, positive attitude help build trust and make outings or daily activities enjoyable and comfortable. Being reliable and punctual is also vital, as the person depends on consistent support. Practical qualities such as awareness of safety, sensitivity to mobility needs, and being able to assist without rushing or taking over are also very important. Flexibility, empathy and the ability to adapt to different situations ensure the person feels supported, respected and safe in the community. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can support a disabled person’s needs by being patient, reliable and attentive. My experience helping others with routines, outings and practical tasks means I can assist safely while still encouraging independence. I communicate clearly, respect personal choice and provide calm, friendly support that helps the person feel confident and comfortable in the community. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): What appeals to me about PA work is the chance to make a real difference in someone’s life. I enjoy helping people with practical tasks and supporting them to live as independently as possible. I like being part of someone’s day, whether it’s going out for a coffee, helping with shopping, or simply keeping them company. I also enjoy building trusting, friendly relationships and getting to know the person I’m supporting, understanding their needs and preferences. It’s rewarding to see someone feel confident and happy because of the support I provide. For me, PA work is about kindness, patience, and making life easier and more enjoyable for someone while respecting their independence. What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I really enjoy photography, which I studied at university, and I like capturing moments and exploring my creativity. I also enjoy going out for walks, visiting new places, and learning new things. Spending time with people and helping others is something I enjoy too, whether it’s supporting children, assisting in the community, or volunteering.
