Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Dewis CIL Website

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I am currently employed as the Quantity Surveying Manager at Cardiff Council where I have been emplyed for the last sixteen years. I am involved in the finance and law of designing and building schools across Cardiff. And whilst I have no formal qualifications as a personal assistant, my own father has ASD. And since a young adult I have been regularly involved in the challenges of helping him manage his own independent living.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe, as with all people, that having patience and an empathy towards each and every individual makes for a great place to start. I believe in spending time to listen and understand each individuals own personal special and specific circumstance and needs means you can then hopefully engage them in a way that works for them, in order to help them have as functional and enjoyable life as possible. I believe having clear and direct communication is also valuable, but also having the ability to sit back and listen is equally useful.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I am an enthusiastic and capable individual, with a friendship group of all ages, with a zest for life and a desire to engage individuals and learn and help those where I can. I have a driving license and enjoy driving, and hence I had recently been looking for caring/driving jobs across Cardiff. Where I would hope to provide somebody the valuable support and social engagement they may wish for.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I am 47 years old and have had a varied and successful working career to date. I am relatively financially comfortable. And I wish to leave my current role into a form of semi-retirement where I feel I am still working and contributing to society. I am confident and enjoy engaging people. And I enjoy driving. So helping an individual get out and engage the world could be something I could maybe contribute too. And upon finding this specific job applicaton to help this individual, it instantly felt like it could fit. Specifically as the job description appeared to align with much of my own set of circumstances. And may be something where we could both benefit each other as I look to morph into a new stage of my life.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I love music, stand up comedy, and I have been a martial arts enthusiast for many years. I have trained in Jiu Jitsu for around five years, and I am a life long boxing fan already. And I have close friends whose Uncle has been the World Boxing Champions. (Steve Robinson). Hence me feeling I could help out here perhaps? I previously managed my own somewhat successful hip-hop record label, where I managed a few individuals to personal success in their chosen arts. I am also a keen photographer.

Would you consider a casual position if you are unsuccessful with this job? (required): Yes

Do you speak any other languages? if so what do you speak?  (required): N/A.

Do you drive? (required): Yes

Are you a vehicle owner?  (required): Yes

Do you smoke? (required): No

Are you able to undertake training? (required): Yes

What days/nights are you able to work, or prefer to work?  (required): I think I would generally prefer to work Mondays to Friday. And I would typically prefer afternoon, or evening work. But I would be happy to discuss other times of the week as well, if the requirement arose.

Are there any circumstances which would prevent you from providing cover or swapping a shift? (required): Yes
If you would like to expand on the answers given above? Please use the box below.: I currently live in Llanedeyrn. I work a form of flexi time, and I am very social and have a few friends who are aged around 24-35. And I am already a martial arts/boxing enthusiast. So upon seeing the current position, I felt I was looking at a person to whom I may be able to provide some localised help and support without too much challenge.

Do you have portable DBS (which has been paid for and renewed for the current year)? (required): No/

Is there is any such information you wish to disclose, relating to any cautions or convictions which will appear on your mandatory DBS check? (required): No/
Please provide details if necessary: I am currently in possession of a clean DBS check at my current position at Cardiff Council that enables me to work throughout schools etc. I am not sure if this in fact portable as referenced in the question above. And hence I have currently answered this with No. But it may in fact turn out that it is portable, and hence I already do.
