Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Dewis CIL Website

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): Over the past few years, I have worked in domiciliary support for children and young people and their families and in a behaviour analyst school for children with autism. My experience includes working with children who are both verbal and non verbal, with ASD, Global Delay and epilepsy. I have worked with children out in the community and in their own homes who present with self injurous behaviours and am trained in both positive behaviour support and PMVA. Working in domiciliary care I have provided early intervention and preventative support to children with challenging behaviours and parents who require extra support to ensure their children remain in their care during times of crisis. I have worked closely with a range of professionals including social worker, CAMHS, occupational and speech and language therapy to name a few. I am confident using PECS and Makaton.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): The qualities vital to working as a personal assistant are to remain calm in challenging times as a calm presence will support the individual to remain calm. Similarly, ensuring that boundaries are kept to as inconsistencies in support can cause anxiety for individuals. Furthermore, ensuring that their upmost level of care and support is maintained and to ensure that they are receiving individualised person centred support which is tailored to their individual needs.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can contribute over 4 years of experience supporting children and their families. I strive for independence in the individuals I support, one such example where I supported a young person to use a fork independently during her meals, when she started being spoon fed and was unable to hold cutlery herself.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): The consistency for the child is vital. For children with disabilities, having familiar faces can support regulation as they are familiar and feel safe with regular support. Whilst working as a support worker, I have been exposed to the consistency of regular support with the same small group of children individually who are familiar with me and likewise I am familiar with them.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I regularly enjoying running, reading and going to the gym. Ensuring that I keep up with exercise supports me in keeping up with any active children!
