In my previous role as a Senior Administrative Officer, I supported students and staff on a daily basis, which required patience, good communication, confidentiality, and the ability to respond calmly to individual needs. I was responsible for maintaining records, supporting individuals with enquiries, and ensuring tasks were completed reliably and respectfully. In the UK, I have worked in roles such as Kitchen Assistant and Warehouse/Production Operative, where I followed strict health and safety and hygiene procedures, worked as part of a team, and demonstrated reliability and physical stamina. These roles have helped me develop responsibility, time management, and an understanding of working in a structured environment. Although I do not yet have direct experience as a personal assistant, I am compassionate, willing to learn, and motivated to provide respectful support that promotes independence. I am happy to undertake training and an Enhanced DBS check. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe the most important qualities when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person are respect, empathy, patience, and good communication. It is essential to listen carefully, respect personal choices, and maintain dignity and privacy at all times. Reliability and trustworthiness are also very important, as the person depends on consistent and dependable support. A personal assistant should be flexible, calm, and able to adapt to the individual’s needs and preferences. Maintaining confidentiality, following instructions, and having a positive and supportive attitude are key to building a strong and respectful working relationship. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can contribute by providing support in a way that encourages independence rather than taking over. I would follow the individual’s preferences and routines, support them with daily activities as required, and always respect their choices and decisions. I believe in promoting confidence and independence by offering assistance only where needed, being patient, and communicating clearly. I would aim to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment, while encouraging the individual to live as independently as possible. I am also willing to learn, accept feedback, and adapt my support to meet the person’s changing needs. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): Personal Assistant work appeals to me because it allows me to support someone in a meaningful and respectful way while helping them live independently. I value one-to-one work, where I can build trust, understand individual needs, and provide support based on the person’s preferences rather than a routine approach. I am motivated by roles where I can make a positive difference in someone’s daily life, whether through practical support, companionship, or encouragement. PA work also appeals to me because it focuses on dignity, choice, and independence, which are values I strongly believe in.
