(required): I can contribute to the needs and independence of a disabled person by providing support in ways that empower them rather than take over. Specifically: Assisting with daily tasks: Helping with activities they find challenging, such as cooking, cleaning, or mobility, while encouraging them to do as much as they can independently. Promoting autonomy: Supporting decision-making and giving choices whenever possible, so they retain control over their own life. Adapting to their preferences: Learning their routines, communication style, and personal preferences to make assistance smooth and respectful. Encouraging skill development: Helping them practice tasks or use tools that improve their independence, like adaptive devices or technology. (required): I can contribute to the needs and independence of a disabled person by providing person-centred, holistic support that promotes their dignity and autonomy. This includes advanced mobility support, safe transfers, and manual handling, as well as personal care such as washing, dressing, toileting, and feeding. I can assist with rehabilitation exercises and physical therapy guidance, helping them maintain and improve their abilities. I focus on emotional support and companionship to enhance mental and social wellbeing, while conducting needs assessments and developing personalised care plans to ensure the care provided meets their unique requirements. I also monitor progress and adapt support as needed, using strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the individual, their family, and other professionals. Additionally, I prioritise safeguarding, risk assessment, infection control, and health and safety compliance, while advocating for and supporting individuals with complex needs. My goal is always to enable independence, while ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are fully met. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): What appeals to me about personal assistant work is the opportunity to make a real, positive difference in someone’s daily life. I enjoy supporting individuals to maintain their independence and dignity, while helping them overcome challenges they might face in day-to-day tasks. I find it rewarding to build trusting relationships, provide practical assistance, and see the impact of my support on both their physical and emotional wellbeing. I am drawn to the variety the role offers—from personal care and mobility support to emotional companionship and advocacy—because it allows me to contribute in a holistic way, addressing both practical needs and social or emotional wellbeing.
