Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Dewis CIL Website

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes
Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I wish to express my interest in the Personal Assistant role supporting a disabled individual. With over 40 years of professional experience in the automotive industry and more than two decades of voluntary service in community coaching, I bring a unique blend of reliability, empathy, and hands-on care that I believe would make a meaningful difference in someone’s daily life. As a qualified Canoe Instructor and long-standing member of the Bridgend Canoe Club committee, I spent over 20 years coaching children and adults, organizing inclusive events, and supporting individuals with varying needs. I held safeguarding certifications and enhanced DBS checks (now expired), and was deeply committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment for all. I even purchased and operated a minibus to ensure no one was excluded from competitions or outings—a reflection of my belief in dignity, inclusion, and going the extra mile.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe the most important qualities are empathy, patience, and reliability. Supporting a disabled person means being attuned to their individual needs and treating them with dignity and respect at all times. Through my 20 years volunteering as a canoe instructor and club coach, I worked closely with people of all ages and abilities—making sure everyone felt included, safe, and supported. I even bought a minibus to ensure no one was left out of competitions, which shows how seriously I take inclusion and care. Reliability is also key. In my professional role at Bridgend Ford, I was trusted to manage vehicle movements, customer service, and logistics for decades. I’m punctual, organized, and physically fit, and I understand the importance of being someone others can count on—especially in a personal assistant role where consistency and trust are vital. Finally, I’d say adaptability and good communication are essential. Whether I was resolving customer complaints or helping a nervous child onto the water for the first time, I’ve learned how to listen, reassure, and respond calmly to changing situations. I’m confident those qualities would help me provide respectful and dependable support in this role

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I believe I can contribute meaningfully to both the needs and independence of a disabled person by combining practical support with genuine care and respect. Through my years as a canoe instructor and club coach, I worked closely with people of all ages and abilities—always focusing on inclusion, encouragement, and helping individuals achieve things they didn’t think were possible. I made sure everyone felt safe and supported, whether that meant adapting activities or simply being a calm, reassuring presence. I’m also very hands-on and reliable. In my professional role, I managed logistics, handled customer service, and ensured vehicles were safely and efficiently moved—skills that translate well to helping someone with daily tasks, transport, or errands. I’m physically fit, COSHH and manual handling certified, and confident navigating routes, which means I can assist safely and competently. Most importantly, I understand that supporting someone’s independence means listening to their preferences, respecting their routines, and empowering them to make their own choices. I’m not there to take over—I’m there to help make life smoother, safer, and more enjoyable, while always preserving their dignity and autonomy

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): **“What appeals to me most about personal assistant work is the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on someone’s daily life. I’ve always found fulfilment in helping others—whether it was supporting children and adults through canoe coaching, organizing inclusive trips, or resolving customer issues in my professional role. I enjoy being hands-on, dependable, and someone people can trust. I’m drawn to the personal connection this role offers. It’s not just about tasks—it’s about building a respectful relationship, understanding someone’s routines and preferences, and helping them maintain independence with dignity. I’ve supported people with different needs before, and I know how important it is to listen, adapt, and be a calm, reassuring presence. Knowing that I can help someone feel more confident, comfortable, and in control of their day—that’s what motivates me. It’s meaningful work, and I’d be proud to bring my experience and care to it.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I’ve always had a passion for motorsport—watching Formula 1 and attending motorbike racing events around the UK has been a big interest of mine. Unfortunately, with work pressures over the last 18 months, I haven’t had much time to enjoy those hobbies as much as I’d like. That said, I still make time for the things that keep me grounded—like walking the dog, swimming, and getting out and about with my family. I really value being outdoors and staying active, and I enjoy spending quality time with loved ones whenever I can
