Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Title (required): Mr.Town (required): CardiffI confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): Ive been supporting vulnerable adults with various learning and physical disabilities for 19 years, all in a voluntary capacity, for a charity in Cardiff and a couple more in Bristol, for the latter, where Im originally from. Although they are spread out. Ive performed my duties in group and personal settings. For the groups Im part of above, Ive generally helped with day to day socialising, e.g. eating out, bowling, cinema, short breaks, sport events etc. Ive also carried out one to one support for men of various ages, including personal care. Where the member alone decides what they would like to do. Im quite flexible. In the past month, Ive got an updated DBS and Carers Wales approval, available upon request. I can get another personal reference, from a member Ive supported outside of the charity events, going back to when Covid originally started, in March 2020

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): Treating everyone as individuals, with care, compassion, patience, trust and integrity, in a befriending capacity. As far as possible, at a support level that works for the person, with help they alone require. Offering as much time and patience needed. Bearing in mind some days for them are better than others. I believe the volunteers and members Ive assisted in the past and currently would regard me as adaptable, reliable, trustworthy, uses initiative, and good fun to be around.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): At the individuals pace, helping to positively promote their successes, whether large or small. Even a small step is in the right direction. I do though think its important the person probably has to adapt, to the environment they are in and therefore the PA needs to take this into account. For example, perhaps less assistance at home, more when they are out. My aim is to give them the confidence to assert their independence, using any methods they or I can think of, to help them integrate more into society.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): One of the key benefits is seeing the persons potential, getting them to see (not everyone is the same) they can possibly do more than they think. Encouraging them (if they wish) to try new things, building friendships with others. As its something I genuinely enjoy, Im looking to do this in a paid capacity, ideally close to where I live in Cardiff.
