What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): There are many qualities I find important as a personal assistant and these are qualities I show both in my personal and professional life. I am a very patient and naturally calm individual which I believe is a key quality to have when supporting any individual’s needs. I am organised and I can easily adapt to any situation when needed. I think it’s crucial to be adaptive and supportive when working with someone with additional needs, as well as being positive, reassuring, patient, understanding and kind throughout. I feel it’s important to build a rapport with the person whom I will be supporting as this is incredibly beneficial to establishing trust and reliability ensuring they feel fully comfortable in my care. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I feel I can positively contribute to the needs and independence of this person in many ways, firstly, as stated in the job description, the individual is looking for a personal assistant to help support them with activities in and out of the home, I already hold experience in my current role with helping expand and work on different interests and hobbies, this is something I feel I could bring to this individual in this new role ensuring I listened carefully to what sort of things they would like to try, reassuring them I will be there every step of the way. I can encourage the individual to build up confidence in social situations and help them engage in different ways in order to meet their goals. The individual states they need reassurance and friendship to help them from feeling anxious, I feel I would be the perfect person to help support and encourage them to feel confident enough to leave the house, and also to want to leave the the house eventually also. I am a friendly individual who enjoys being able to help and support others, making them feel a sense of relief and confidence when overcoming a fear or struggle of theirs.
