Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have worked as a residential support assistant in a LArche house for a year. LArche is a worldwide organisation for adults with both learning and physical disabilities. LArche has a emphasis on living with rather than helping to live, its a community environment, and one I loved being a part of. Among many of the things I learnt while living at LArche, were practical skills. Helping to keep the house clean and tidy, spending quality time with the adults with learning disabilities, and really getting to know them, making sure the days are spent in the best ways to make sure the interests and hobbies of everyone are met. I also have a car qualification, am qualified to give injection and am specifically trained in Autism awareness.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I really believe that it is important to build a one to one relationship with anyone you work in close proximity with. Getting to know each other, and what the individual requires and how they want to be treated. It is important to be patient, not every day is going to go the way that may be expected. To listen and to communicate openly and clearly.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): This was the biggest part of working and living in LArche. I think I can encourage this alot, I have a wide variety of interests myself and I know how important these are to anyones wellbeing, so being encouraging of these is natural to me. Also, I know the importance of being in a clean and comfortable environment, and how important this is to someones independence.
