Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): Having to work as a caretaker is so much more than just the name ‘caretaker’ it is protecting someone and genuinely being a shoulder for one to lean on. Its always been in my nature to show care to persons who are unable to care for themselves. I have always believed that showing genuine care to people, especially strangers, increases the goodness in the world by 1%. At age 20, my Grandmother who was 90 years old, had elderly disabilities, she was bedridden and had dementia, clearly obvious that my grandmother needed 24/7 care as well as keeping really close watch on her. Well, I stood up to the challenge as empathy and patience have always been amongst my personal attributes. Duties like wheeling the wheelchair for a change of scenery, bathing and dress ups, assistance to ease bowels in the convenience room, timely medications, change of diapers, spoon-feeding and keeping a close watch on my Grandmother was done without any prior training or any sort of signal that my grandmother was about going into dementia, so at least we can be ready for it, as we all know that change does not announce its presence but surfaces when it dims fit. Having to take proper care of my Grandmother was never a burden to me, instead, it gave me a fair share of experience which I am glad I had. I am currently studying at Cardiff Metropolitan university, where I study for a masters in occupational health safety and wellbeing. Laying more emphasis on health and wellbeing as it is similar to the duties of a caregiver. I am particularly interested in resuming any caregiver role as well as confident that I can deliver by unlearning and relearning the core duties of a caretaker.
