Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Title (required): Miss.

Town (required): Pontypridd
County (required): Rhonda Cynon taff

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): Have spent the last year as a domiciliary carer, caring for a wide range of individuals with completely unique and individual needs. Every client is different, some require full care and support, some only need a cup of tea and a chat. Whatever is needed, I can adapt to and quickly learn each individual need. Working with two different care companies throughout the year has meant that this clientele range has been widened even further, meaning I have completed a vast range of tasks.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): It is important to have an open mind and do not enter the personal assistant job feeling as though you know everything. Every person is different so it is important to communicate with the individual to understand what their needs and desires are. It is important to stay professional whilst also allowing yourself to let loose and have a laugh! I currently study psychology at university, so I understand the mental health complications that can accompany a disability, and have a wide range of knowledge around how to support and care for these individuals.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): Due to my psychology studies at university, I find it easier to interpret other people’s feelings in order to help them receive the best experiences in life. Not only this, I feel I can support them in their mental health and well-being. Alternatively to the serious side- I am always up for having a laugh and I am a big talker, which I find is important to engage the individual in conversation and treat them as though they do not have a disability. This is important so they do not feel like an outcast. I have many hobbies, and I do not find much boring- so I am up for whatever the individual is interested in!
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I enjoy caring for and developing a relationship with one individual. In my previous care company job, I cared for a young woman with Cerebral palsy. We quickly bonded and it felt as though I was just hanging out with a friend! It is important that you enjoy your job, and I have always enjoyed talking with others as well as caring for them and making sure they have everything they need! I always imagine as though the clients are one of my family members, so that I treat them how I would want my family to be treated- with respect and dignity. I have previously done social calls and PA work in domiciliary care, and I always enjoyed making myself feel at home and becoming comfortable with clients on an individual level- to develop a relationship that makes them feel safe. As well as this, PA work allows me to develop a deeper connection, so they can speak openly to me about any other mental health issues they have been experiencing, and in turn I can provide them with advice and support.

What are your hobbies/interests?: There is not much I don’t enjoy! Even if I do not actively seek out specific hobbies, I am always up to try new things. I enjoy interior design and anything to do with houses! I like watching anything on the tv, from murder she wrote, to houses under the hammer, to police interceptors, or a good old Disney movie! A horror movie, sci fi or action- I really don’t mind! I enjoy studying, although this sounds strange! I have always enjoyed school and I enjoy learning new things- reading etc. I love going to the cinema and although I claim I hate soaps, I cannot stop watching them! I love a cup of a coffee and a day in bed! (Who doesn’t?). But my biggest hobby is probably just talking!
