I have worked for someone who is partially - sighted for over 5 years. I am also used to assisting a blind person and understand how to guide properly and how to describe things and help with shopping etc. I am sensitive to the needs of someone who is partially sighted and am glad to contribute to them leading a full and varied life.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I think being reliable and conscientious are vital qualities when working as a PA with a disabled person. You also need to be caring, flexible and able to listen and respond to their needs which may differ from day to day. You need to be sensitive and conscious of the need for absolute confidentiality.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

As a car driver and someone who is happy to go to different places. I can help a disable get out and about. I am patient and obliging and happy to fit in with whatever they might want to do such as shopping, socialising etc. I am also competent and strong so able to assist with letters, admin and cleaning.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I like working with people and being a friend to my employer. I also enjoy the variety of PA work and being able to share my employer's experiences with them.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I like walking, reading and going to concerts. I like being with my family. I am interested in environmental matters and belong to my local church.
